52 Cards Challenge 2013
Welcome to the thread for this year's 52 Cards challenge! :D
Those of you who joined in with the 2012 challenge will be quite familiar with how this works but there is a new addition to the challenge! ;)
What is it?
A no-stress challenge aimed at getting you to make a card a week in 2013.
Each week I will post prompts to my blog - these will either be:
- 3 prompts randomly picked from the prompt jar
- Photo inspiration from Pinterest, etc. (that you can interpret in any way that you like: colours, layout, design elements, product - it's up to you!)
- Design elements or themes
- An existing card design that you can use as a sketch to create your own interpretation
- A colour challenge
All you need to do is use the prompts as inspiration to create a card and share it here on the thread. :) Easy as that.
If you can't include all elements of a prompt, don't worry - there are no rules, the aim is simply to get creating!
Where are the prompts?
All prompts past and present can be found here at my blog.
When are they posted?
The prompts go live every Monday morning at around 8.30 a.m. Due to work hours I schedule the blog post for challenge prompts so it's available at the same time and same place each week. :) I am sure some kind soul could list the prompts here on the thread for anyone having difficulties visiting the blog.
What's new for 2013?
Well, there was a hint that other folks were in the same boat as me in December, when panic set in that we hadn't made enough cards to send to people... I really want to avoid a repeat of that for Christmas 2013! So, as an added push this year those that want to get ahead with their Christmas cards can make an extra card a week by using the prompt to create a Christmas card as well. If that sounds like too much work, no problem! This is meant to be a stress-free challenge. Join in as and how you like, one week you may want to just make a card for the original prompt, another week just a Christmas card, or some weeks you just won't have time to make either!
There is a separate thread here in the card forum to share your (hopefully) 52 Christmas card crackers! So if you are ultra-productive there is a chance you could make at least 104 cards in 2013!
So all that remains to say is... see you Monday for week one! :D

Thanks for this Natty, I for one, will be joining in this year for sure! ;)
-
last year I meant to join in, but with one thing and another I lost my Mojo. At the moment its reappeared, so I aim to do at least 2 out of 4 a month.
-
I've been planning on making my Nan a gift box of cards for a couple of years and have never managed it, so hoping if I follow along with this challenge I'll have something to give her by her birthday in September!
-
I'd like to try again this year, see if I can keep up. I vowed not to buy any more cards while I have so mush stash piled in my craft room!
Making a Christmas card each week sounds like a good plan too. I will try and set aside one night a week for card making.
Hope we all have a happy and productive 2013 !
-
I am going to oipt out this year if that's ok. I have really enjoyed doing the challenges though and I may still call in and do one from time to time.
-
Oh, we'll miss you Barbie. Do pop in though please.
104 cards should go some way towards getting cards made for all my needs, I might even count up how many I do need, in my spare time perhaps.
Last year's 52 certainly lightened the load considerably, so I'll be joining in again, once I've caught up with the odd few outstanding ones from 2012.
-
I'm glad that we'll have some familiar faces returning and I hope to see some new ones joining in too! :D
Here's my card from this week to get the ball rolling.... ;)

Hello, everyone. I would love to join in with your challenge this year if you'll have me. I've been making more cards recently and a prompt a week, plus the inspiration from all of you, would certainly help to keep me motivated :)
-
I have looked in over the years to see all the lovely cards! I think I would like to give it a go as I need to use some of the stash that I have acquired and make some more time for crafting x
-
Well done Jo.bee on getting your card made! :D
Mary, that new home card is lovely!
Seffie and Trololo - the more the merrier, look forward to seeing what you make. :)
-
I'm going to try and play when I can this year.
-
I'm going to give this ago again this year - didn't last very long last year :(
I've also promised myself that I will make two copies of each card that I make and give the extra ones to my friend to sell at her Breast Cancer fundraising events.
-
Thank you for this challenge, it will hopefully give me the kick that I need.

Lovely card Lesely, that's a great bit of embossing! I'm resolved this year to use my embossing folders more as they have sadly been rather neglected....
Love the colours on your card Jo and that's a lovely greeting stamp as well. :)
-
Some great inspiration here already.
-
Have decided to take the plunge and join you all. I always seem to be rushing to make the cards I need.
-
The more the merrier Beth! :D
-
I've made another card this week that fits the "new" theme as I put some lovely new stamps, dies, and inks to good use, and also tried out a technique that was almost new to me. I loved this chalkboard technique when I saw it showcased by Betsy Veldman in November, just hadn't had chance to try it until this week. :)

I love that chalkboard look! and the embossing..I need to get an embossing tip for my Slice, I think..
Here is my card - a New Year card for a friend.
-
Love those cards Natty and seffie
-
thank you Nat for doing this challenge again. I just don't have the time to do challenges with time limits so this is perfect for me.
TC - this sounds maybe a little O.C.D. but I have a spreadsheet of all our 'regular' birthdays for family and friends which also shows their age, it is for approx the next 10 years and I always look at ones coming up and try to tie one up the the weekly prompts, thereby making cards I know I will use ;) and also stops me forgetting any :o
Beautiful cards already! I need to release my stash from it's Christmas confinement in the cupboard but now the house is void of guests I can play again!
-
Fab card seffie, that background paper is one of my faves from the Christmas card production line. :)
Lilli I look forward to your stash being released into the wild again! ;)

Here's mine for week 1
I do often manage to tie the challenge in, but sometimes it doesn't work Lilliboy, esp if I know what what to what I want to do for that person.

It's been so long since I posted anything on UKS I can't remember how to do it
Hopefully, my two week one cards are above. The stash is all new in the sense that I have never used any of it before - just bought it and kept it!
-
Lovely cards girls, and Donna I think it's even more satisfying to make something with "old" stash that you've never got round to using and re-discovering it. :)
-
I've just spent quite a while putting last year's cards into a folder in my gallery. If you're just starting this year, learn from my mistake and start a folder/album now. Please don't anyone tell me there's a quick way of doing it or I'll have a paddy LOL.
I only came on to check which ones I really do need to do to finish last years as I had 2 notes with the details of 2 weeks on and I had indeed done them, just that dreaded rolled flower and the one with 'holiday' in the theme, OK here goes...
It was worse than I thought, I still have the song words one to do too, and have to check up on the glitter one.
Still here we are;

Here's my week one card, and I made a Christmas card using the same design - copied from a card I found on google images - both just used scraps
My 'new' thing was my sizzix banner die
Can I ask you experienced card makers - do you usually use ready made card blanks, or do you just use cardstock to make your cards ?
I enjoyed doing this. looking forward to tomorrows new prompt...
-
Ooh they are lovely Alison. I might copy those if that's OK:)
-
Thats fine Donna, as I said I based them on a card seen on google images !
-
Morning card makers....
I just love your cards Alison and may pinch the idea also it you don't mind. In answer to your question about card....I use both! I have some card blanks but sometimes if I want to do a different size or colour will use whatever card I have in my stash, I do find that some card tends to get 'stressed' along the fold line though!?!!
