    Scanner recommendations?

I'm planning to get a scanner to start scrapping my mum's old pics from my childhood and other old family pics (she'd kill me if I used the originals lol).

I don't really know much about scanners but looking for something that will scan photos but also drawings we do for our Imagepaq and LO's for my gallery here.

I'm not so concerned about price (within reason), just something that will be good enough to last me a while.

Anyone here have scanners that they like or any suggestions as to what I should be looking for (resolution etc.)?

    Thanks

I have just bought a new scanner, it is an HP Scanjet G4010, and I have just scanned all my mums old photos, mainly B/W but also a lot of old colour ones too, and it works brilliantly, here are a few bits about it... Optical Resolution: 4800 dpi x 9600 dpi and Resolution: 8-bit (256 grey levels) / 96-bit colour. Supported Media Type: Plain paper, slides, bulk objects (such as books), film.
    Hope this helps.

I have an Epson Perfection 3490 photo which does negs and slides as well as photos and anything else. I use the one on my printer more though (have to spend a week scanning old slides sometime soon!

I've got an Epson perfection 3490 scanner which has been great. I've had it for a while now and really love it. It's been superseed by the vperfection series I think and would thoroughly recommend an epson
4800x9600 should be ample resolution, you end up with massive files otherwise and it depends on the resolution of your printer as well I think. I find it quite useful to have something to scan negatives/slides. For scanning photos the ability to scan bulk objects isn't totally necessary but it's a nice little extra!
