If you download the fonts they will probably be zip files. On the left of the screen after you've done this there an " extract All ", click on this and they'll open BUT I wouldn't add them to your fonts on the computer as the more fonts you've got on there the slower your comp will be. Open another folder just for fonts in your My documents and put them in there. When you want to use them just open the font file in there and it will appear in your font list then close it after you've finished. So in other words have both word and the My Documents font file open at the same time.

i think that when you want to use a font you have to move it to the My computer: C: Windows: Fonts file
I have a font manager program that i downloaded for free called the font thing, which makes it really easy to see what you've got and to install/uninstall the ones you want to use.
I think it's in the library

when i download a zip font folder from the net i save it to my desktop so i know where it is, but when i unzip it i click on browse and navigate to my windows font folder so it unzips into there.

that way once you know it shows upin all your applications you can just delete the zip file from your desktop.

It still makes your computer very slow if you put it in you computer font folder on your C drive though Stressed.
It's better either to have a font manager as Jennihall mentioned or to save it to a font folder either on your desktop on in My Documents in it's own folder. Whatever programme you want to use it in, if you have the font folder /file open it will be accessible for other programmes that you're using at the same time.

did you unzip the file first before putting it in your font folder

Also some fonts need to actually be installed so go to Control Panel > Font Folder > File > Install New Font. Navigate to where the new font is and then select the one you want to install > OK
