I think Irfanview is only used for cropping the screen print using the Windows keyboard screen print button as Sarah says, it doesn't do screen shots.
I had Gadwin for a while, but tried King Kong Capture and found that much nicer to use, so deleted GW. It's a shame you can't still get it free, I was just lucky to get the last free one.

I use Gadwin too, it works in other programmes as well as Design Master and Robomaster, it's very useful.

The thing with Gadwin though is you can just select a portion of the screen you want a shot of and using the computer prntscrn you get the whole screen I think.

cards only
I use my print screen button all the time, and yes it does copy the whole page, so I then crop it while it is in paint, and then save, so you then only have what you need copied, and it only takes seconds to do.

Pressing ALT + Print Screen will capture just the active window and not the whole screen.

Oh I am even more confused now, I didnt manage to complete the tutorial either. I am not even sure what a screenshot does, so should I get rid of Irfanview?
I dont have PSP so If I use what Pollywhatsit says to do, thats ok?
Can someone explain to me exactly what the purpose of a screenshot does. Sorry to appear thick.

You can do what ladyengineer says ......Pressing ALT + Print Screen will capture just the active window and not the whole screen.

It takes a picture of what's on your screen, for example if you upload a file you can take a screenshot to show what it looks like rather than someone having to click the file and open it to see what it looks like
