Depends on who you are buying presents for, but Southend does have a branch of Hawkins Bazaar, up the top end of the High Street near the cinema. Great for the weird and wacky gifts for all ages lol...

As for craft stuff, there's a "proper art shop" called Lawrence Matthews in Queens Road which is just next door to the Post Office, they have a few bits of scrapbooking/stamping stuff but really nothing much to write home about, there's also Poundland down in The Royals (covered mall at the sea-side end of the High Street) and the 99p shop almost under the railway line in the High Street where you may be able to pick up odds and sods.

Do yourself a favour tho and stop off at Barleylands en-route to Southend - its between Billericay and Wickford and there are 2 very good craft shops there - PM me for details if you need!

Isn't there a shop called Pulling on the Glitz? Or has it shut?

There did used to be - I worked there ... but sadly it went out of business 2 years ago.
