    Cameo vs Eclips

I've missed out on a couple of second hand cutters now - so have decided to buy new.

I just can't quite make my mind up between the New Cameo or the Sizzix Eclips.

They're similar money, I can get an eclips for £249 but then need to be SCAL for the eclips. Or I can get the Cameo for £289.

I hate the idea of cartridges which is why the Cricut is no longer on my list.

So any advice on which is better between the Cameo and the Eclips?

I like the look of the eclips and it looks like you could easily cut remotely without a PC? Can you save designs from SCAL on to the handheld part to cut without a computer?

I believe the Cameo has an SD Slot which can hold graphics etc to cut without a PC but the controls look a little lacking on the Cameo - can you control enough to cut them?

I like the idea behind printing something first then cutting it out as per the Cameo.

I've read a few bad reviews about the Cameo failing to cut etc, I can't find much on the eclips at all!

Hi nbuuifx. Have a look on the Craft Robo forum. It's the specialist forum, quite a way down the list . I always go there for excellent advice on everything to do with cutters. We're not having a good time with the Cameo at the moment but it's all being looked into.

Well all i can say is i bought a craft robo 320 secondhand coz i could not afford the new cameo that is out. I had the craft robo lite before that which only cut so i wanted to catch up and try the print and cut version. I have not looked back so far i love the print and cut it has opened up a new world to me.
I would say go for the print and cut type but like you say some folks have had a few problems with the cameo so not sure whether i would advise that. Had you considered looking for a secondhand craft robo 320 like i did?

I'm not sure if it's the same but I'd been looking at the Silhouette SD, but if I remember correctly it was only A4 which would do most of the time but whilst I'm spending that much I might as well pay a bit extra and get a slightly bigger one.

Both look very impressive but I don't want to end up with something that you have to mess about with all the time to get it to work right. I've only used a Cricut before and they seem fantastic robust machines but they've killed it for me by locking out SCAL.

The Sizzix also had a laser preview to see where it's going to cut which is a really nice feature.

I'm slightly edging towards the cameo right now I think - could do with ordering one today - so need to make my mind up!!!

I really like the sizzix but worry that I can't find many reviews/comments etc so worry if it's not as popular over here will spares etc be a problem in the future?

Interestingly I was looking to buy a Cameo at the NEC but after watching the demo and commenting that I was looking to replace my Craft Robo, I was asked if my Robo works, which indeed it does. He told me that Silouette is the new name for the Robo and it does exactly the same! It's breathed a whole new life into my Robo, i'd never used the print and cut feature before and it also works with the new Silouette software. I used it for Children in Need day, my son had to wear spots so I downloaded a Pudsey off the internet, traced around him to set the cut area, printed him out, cut him out and then cut out matching spots and Xyron'd them to the top! I've attached a pic for you to see! The only major difference is the size, the Cameo is 12x12 and the Robo is A4 so it depends if you're bothered in cutting 12x12. If you decide A4 is sufficient it might be worth you putting a wanted in the marketplace as then you wouldn't miss out as the deal would come to you! Just think what you can so with the spare cash, i've seen Robo's go for around £60-80. By the way, I was going to spend £299 on my silhouette and as I didn't end up buying it I now have an Ipad!!

I make cards mostly so i don't really need to cut anything bigger than a4 size so i am quite happy with the craft robo 320. I got mine secondhand for £100 a heck of a lot cheaper than what i would have paid for a cameo. I guess it all depends on whether you feel you need to cut bigger than the a4 size. There does seem to be some problems with the cameo blades at the moment but graphtec seem to be working very hard to fix the problem. The cameo can also cut thicker card than the Craft Robo.
