Our findings re the Cameo blades

She had a bit of a strong accent but I think I understood it all. I didn't notice anything that wasn't really obvious but I think I'll watch it again to make sure. She does say at the start that it wasn't her own idea how to dismantle it (I could swear she says she got the idea from Silhouette America!) and she reiterates at the end that you copy the technique at your own risk.

I have 2 blades, so started with the naff one first and it unscrewed fine, the one I am using at the moment and am sure is full of glitter wont actually undo....

OK, I've had another watch and what she says is all pretty much what you can see for yourself in the video. She says that it does get easier to move the more you turn it, so I guess you just need to persevere. It's possible that because she's already opened hers a few times it has eased quite a bit - would've been good to see how much she actually struggled the first go!

Dear All
If the blade extends more than the thickness of the card then it is likely to get damaged. Please remember that setting 1 on the Cameo cutter is equivalent to the blue cap, setting 2 is equivalent to the yellow cap and setting 3 is equivalent to the pink cap. Any settings higher than this must be used with caution and only were the thickness of the card warrants it.

Sorry Phil, but I note there is a contradiction of information here.

My question about the ratchet blade is, if we are only suppose to use the blade at settings 1-3 and the rest with caution as Graphtec recommends, why does the software recommend a higher blade settings for card that is not out of the ordinary?

Its not surprising the blades are getting damaged when the software suggests a higher setting than Graphtec recommends. e.g textured card stock. Should we use the 3 setting you recommend or do we use 5 which the software suggest? This is particularly relevant to new users of the Silhouette and Cameo who may not be confident to chose their own settings. They will go with the software recommendations.

I love my Cameo by the way.

Blimey Linda that is some dust!! How did you manage to get it out - any tips gratefully received. I can't understand why Graphtec don't consider this to be a problem. I had my replacement cameo blade yesterday and have put it in my machine today, I've only cut one item so far so I'll have to see how it goes.

this did happen to me to after a few cuts and the tip of the blade has come off so i have had to bye NEW ONE TO

Once opened, I wonder if you can put replacement blades in...anyone know?
or are we forced to buy a new holder and blade each time a new blade is needed?

The theory was good, the practise has just cost me a new blade lol

The housing turned as instructed but wouldnt come off no matter how i tried and when screwing it back up ....it wouldnt show the blade at all

ah Well I'm sure there must be a fool proof way to clear the debris

Thanks to Lynda and Deb B for these links - wow! I tried it on my one and only cameo blade which was irretrievably clogged with bits and managed to get it to pieces, unclogged and put together with the aid of this excellent video. I've only cut paper with it so far but will be interested to see how it performs on thicker card. I'm so glad I didn't just chuck my blade in the bin - I was very tempted to do so when it clogged.

Has anyone tried out the new fabric blade with the removable tip and is this actually the one that Sil promised us, but they are just calling it a fabric blade until stocks of other blade are exhausted iyswim? Does anyone have any views?
