Vinyl question

I think I know the answer to this, but I'm asking any way. Will vinyl stick to terracotta plant pots?

why would you rough up a terracotta plant pot to get vinyl to stick?

I used vinyl on a pot plant pot recently and it worked fine for me with no roughing up.

I thought it might cling better. Depends on the finish of the pot.

Hi The best way to get it to stick is to paint it first with pva glue this will give it a good base & will dry clear. I would do 1 coat with watered down pva & then 1 coat normal

The finish is what ever terracotta is made of oh, natural I guess.

That might work, it works with plaster.

Were yours proper terracotta or something else? I figured it wouldn't stick because it's slightly rough and porous.

As I have been playing with my vinyl a lot lately I had a think about this...... at first I thought it would stick but then thought again and thought it would be too porous so still not sure and I don't have one here to try some vinyl on.... but the PVA glue idea would work.....

I waa going to say on smooth terracotta plant pots its better to paint them first with a solution of watered down pva glue.. It gives it a seal so its not porous any more... It does dry clear

If the pots feel "gritty" though in places it wont work as the "Grit" will show through under the vinyl... There are different "grades" of pots... Some are smooth some are gritty some look cracked... Just shop around for a "nice" one.....

I'm not shopping around, I've got loads of pots and thought they would look nice with some decoration on them. I suppose a bit of a light rub down with some fine sandpaper would get rid of sharp gritty bits, then treat with watered down PVA and it might work. I just didn't want to spend hours doing it only to find it fell off.

Dont forget to wash the pot after sanding Lucille and let it dry to get rid of the sanded bits...

I decorated a terracotta pot that my neighbour uses for putting grit in for his chickens (when you start using vinyl you decorate anything lol) and it went on with no problems.
