From what I've read the Designer Edition which you have to pay for used to save as an SVG bit unless you can find an earlier version...sorry not sure which version ...you won't be able too

I only bought the DE a few months ago when it was on offer so I've never been able to save as an SVG. I don't know why it was removed because a lot of people would like the option to save as an SVG. You can use SVG's with the DE (I use Inkscape and save as an SVG to use in Studio) but you can only save as a Studio file

i am trying to avoid using inkscape although i used to use it years ago when i first got a robo, i downloaded it to my mac but it didn't seem stable so uninstalled it. i found studio great and easy to use but and at a dead end again now as cannot save as svg.

i feel as though i am going round in circles.

Ashley, we've had several discussions about using DE to save to svg, you need version 1.9 or v2.00 to do this - but as far as I know this wasn't included with the Mac version.

I actually believe it's quite stupid of Silhouette to have removed the save to svg option from the earlier software versions (which I think possibly wasn't intended to be included in the first place?) particularly since they won't allow people to sell any studio versions of their own designs. They did actually add this option back into a fairly recent version of DE, and it would save OK but wasn't recognised as a valid file by other software. I've not tried again since.

The version of SS I've got is the latest one I think, it's something like 2.9 I think the date was jan 2014. I've tried using the svg extension but it won't open in the brother canvas software

Studio is Studio (and not SVG) because that is what SilhouetteUS want. I have DE and still find the easiest method to get designs into SNC Canvas is to print and scan, uploading to Canvas as an .fcm file. Their tracing method is weak and too much detail is lost when you try to trace a JPG or even import a SVG file. It seems a shame to waste paper but it does get the best results out of dubious software.

No it won't save as an SVG as Rosemary says you need V1.9 or V2..... the latest version is 2.9.45d which is higher than V2

My theory as to why Sihouette took away the feature of saving to svg is because they don't want people to be able to cut their files with other machines. Protecting their market share I suppose...
