Embossing Fluid - Make your own!
    Supplied by Barbie Boop! 5/20/00

When Your embossing ink pad needs to be re-juiced...Try this recipe:
Mix and store in empty film containers or an empty Embossing Fluid bottle the following ingredients:
Mix together in equal parts- 1 part glycerin and 1 part water.
Add a few drops of peppermint extract!(just for fun!)
Pour Embossing fluid carefully onto pad.... you may want to use a make up sponge and dab the EF all around the pad.

I've not tried it, so can't vouch for the peppermint extract!

I have to admit, I used to use an iron to melt my embossing powder before I had a heat-gun. It worked pretty well - just had to make sure that it wasn't on the steam setting

I was a very skint student at that point, so it did the job

Thanks for the recipe, Laura. Might have to give it a try

You can get heat guns very cheaply now,as little as £10 when they have offers on.If you have neat handwriting you can actually write with a normal biro and coloured embossing powder (not clear or it does just look like biro) something like gold powder works really well and is great for doing personalised cards - just write a bit at a time to stop the ink drying up before you get the powder on.
Dawn Bibby on QVC does good embossing demonstrations with a few handy tips.

use glycerine as an embossing fluid - can't remember how much you have to water it down, but can find out or you can just use it straight - I did for an embossed tongue print (don't ask - and glycerine tastes awful!)
How do you use the antistatic bag?

I bought a heat gun last week £9.99 form studio catalogue

Make sure your ink is quite wet!! Flick the card/paper to get rid of the excess. Then you'll get a crisp pronounced finish. Oh and don't buy cheapo embossing powder it's pants (excuse the lingo). Good Luck!! Done well it's amazing what you can do with embossing.

Antistatic bag / talc in a sock

wipe lightly over your surface before you stamp - stops powder clinging where it shouldn't

Someone told me today to wipe a paper towel over the paper before you stamp.

I'm a bit stuck though. I got a lovely embossing stencil and pen, but the stencil has some very fine lines that the pen doesn't fit through. Any suggestions? The eye end of a needle? (I don't actually own any on account of not being able to sew!)

Also, what then? Can I colour the raised bit? If so, what do I do? Or do I just choose some shiny card to emboss?

Thanks. And thanks for the tip about the lightbulb.
