So many photos, so little time
WOYWW - 27 July
So this is what's on my desk: it really shouldn't be here, it was supposed to be finished last night. However, my electronic cutter had other ideas, and I had to spend time trouble-shooting instead of cutting. With a little bit of luck I'll get it finished later today.

Okay ladies, I'm going to cheat and read the title as What's On Your Wall Wednesday. So yesterday a neighbour alerted us to the fact that we had a nest on the wall in the vale. I took photo's and today contacted a bee-keeper as it is a honey bees' nest. They came and I took lots of photo's had to use the big guns my camera as we need to stand well away. They still flew over to us but didn't bother us at all.
Fortunately they seem to have got the queen, if they hadn't, they couldn't take them but the fact that the bees are now going into a box means the queen is in there. We have to wait for the scouts to return this evening, they are out looking for a new hive, but here's where we are up to so far.

Last few... Did you know bees sort of disconnect their wings to flex their muscles to warm up the hive for the queen - I did not know this!

So the lovely lady will be back tonight around 8pm to collect the box and remove to a new hive all safe and sound. God, I love a happy ending and we have to protect the bees.

That's so wonderful Susie. What great pictures and happy ending. The bee keeps in each area have a register and people are listed if they have empty hives. My best friend keeps bees and they lost one of their hives and so were on the register for rehoming a swarm. It is such a good system and they are so important to us to save. Fabulous story

Bet that was interesting Susie - it is true what they say - If the bees disappear, so will we.

A tidy house is the sign of a broken computer
Fabulous pictures Susie, I have always wanted to see one- from a safe distance.

It was just amazing. They were worried the queen wouldn't leave in which case the bees wouldn't go but once they started going into the box in their 1000's they knew the queen must have been in there. The lady came about around 8pm and they were all in there having a well earned rest. She just wrapped the box in the cloth it was resting on and took them off to their new hive. She is going to send photo's when they are settled in and hopefully next year we will have honey from one of their hives.
What with that and the cat catching the bird it is very stressful, so much easier if we didn't give a damn about wildlife.
